Finding A Professional Hypnotherapist

If, you are in the US check with the state and local regulations, it will vary from state to state. For example, in Texas, you need to be a licensed Psychologist in order to practice hypnotherapy, but in most states, there is little or no oversight. Here is a link that will show you what each state requires. Hypnotherapists Union Local 472

The best way to keep yourself or loved ones safe is to do your homework. Check to make sure the practitioner is a member in good standing with hypnosis governing organizations like the National Guild of Hypnotist or the International Association of Hypnosis Professionals. There are many hypnosis associations for professionals who specialize in things like pain management or dental hypnosis.

Here is a list of things to know and to ask.

  • Make sure they have a business license, even if there is no regulation on hypnosis there is still a requirement to have a business license.
  • Do they carry professional liability insurance?
  • Do they carry malpractice insurance?
  • Is the office in their home or a professional setting? (either is okay but be aware.)
  • What kind of HYPNOSIS training have they completed? They should have at least 200 hours of basic hypnosis training and 12+ hours of Continuing Education every year.
  • What is the success rate of their clients? (if it’s 100%, they are not for you, because no therapy or process works 100% of the time and so I would question there integrity.)
  • Do they practice hypnotherapy full-time or is it a “side” job?

The most important thing is that you must feel comfortable with your hypnotherapist. You have to trust this person completely in order for you to get the most benefit from the work you do together. Call and talk to people and when one of those people feels right set up a consultation and met with them. They should make you feel as if you can accomplish your goals regardless of how monumental they may seem. ‘The person you work with should leave you feeling excited about the change work ahead and most importantly they should make you feel good about yourself, and that’s before the work even starts.

I hope this helps and good luck!
