Can hypnosis work to help me stop smoking?
Do you really want to stop smoking? If you can answer that question with “Yes, I want to stop smoking for good”. Then you all ready have it all in the bag. Your decision to stop smoking has to be one that is all your choice. You will be successful if you are doing it for you. The success rate decreases as the internal motivation or catalyst for the need to stop is your wife, husband, partner, son, daughter, girlfriend, boyfriend, employer, sponsor, or any other entity besides YOU. Oh, and here is the kicker on that generalized rule – if you stop for the “other” then it will be the “other” that drives you back to the old behavior. Sucks, but that is what the evidence suggest.
Will I have cravings or gain weight?
Not if we work together with the part of your subconscious mind that is responsible for the behavior to begin with. Cool, right? But then you might wonder, “how the heck are we gonna do that?” Well, that is the even cooler part. You see instead of making you close your eyes and go off to some “la la trance land” and hoping that I say the right things that will promote the change and then say all the right things that will support the change in all situations that have ever made you want to have a cigarette, and let’s be real there are probably a whole bunch of things on that list. Nope, that’s the old way. Instead, we are going to work the new way, in my opinion the most efficient way, and to do that we will have a direct conversation with the part of your subconscious mind that is responsible for running the old unhelpful and outdated “I need/want a cigarette.” program and assign that part a new job. Sounds easy? IT IS! No shit. I know I used to be a smoker too.
How many sessions does it take?
Step one: I want to talk to you. I will schedule your free consultation for either in person at the office in West Seattle or via Zoom. I prefer live these days if you are local but I am still working with international clients. At that time I will send you the intake form and we will also discuss my fee.
Step two: The free consultation.The free consultation/assessment session includes taking a brief history and introducing you to hypnosis, both theoretically and practically. You should allow 45 to 60 minutes for this. This will be a good time to ask any questions you may have. At the end of this consultation, we will know if hypnosis is a good fit for you, and you will also get to know me a bit and decide if you want to work with me. Step three: We will then schedule all three of your sessions. Each session will be scheduled about a week apart. The first session generally last about an hour. The second and third sessions about 30 minutes each. If there is time at the end of your consultation and we may be able to conduct the first session or the “change session” that day.

What if I start smoking again?
Really? That is the approach you are going to take with this. Setting the expectation to fail? No, hey wait that is not what you are doing. In fact, that little voice that makes you ask that question is probably the same part that is making you believe it is going to be hard anyway. After all isn’t that what the TV commercials say and the doctors and the radio ads. No worries! Working together we will take care of that and you will feel that at the consultation.
